Mr N: Solving your wedding day dilemmas
HEY MR DJ
Dear Mr N
My fiancé and I are considering not hiring a DJ and using an iPod instead for when our band finish playing. How best would you suggest we pick our playlist?
Gary, Cheltenham
I understand the simplicity and economic benefits from using an iPod but you really run the risk of having an empty dancefloor . Hire a DJ. An iPod is simply no substitute for a DJ. Discuss with your DJ the style of music you both like and listen/dance to. But also let them guide you on what they recommend. The whole point of a DJ is to judge a crowd and react to the atmosphere. However an iPod does work for simple background music for the likes of a drinks reception. Just one other point ensure your DJ will not speak nor dedicate any song. Rather naff.

Mr N: Solving your wedding day dilemmas
UNWANTED GUEST
Dear Mr N
My maid of honour has just got a new boyfriend who my fiancé really doesn’t get along with. What would you suggest is the best way to ask her to come alone without causing any upset?
Melissa, Surrey
I would suggest you explain to her that you want your wedding to be close and intimate with family and friends that you and your husband to be know well. If she is a good enough friend she will totally understand. Take her out for a treat (either a spa appointment or afternoon tea) to discuss your wedding plans making her feel involved. She will soon forget about him being there and totally understand the day is all about you and your fiancé.

MARK MEETS: Cosmopolitan Bride's Fashion Director Sally Dixon
Sally Dixon has been Fashion Director of Cosmopolitan Bride since early 2007.
A favourite of wedding dress designers alike, and Mark’s “industry wife” he caught up with her to talk all things style and glamour.
Sally you are perhaps one of the best at what you do. The industry love Cosmo Brides Fashion pages… what inspires each shoot…
It varies from shoot to shoot. It can be a location I've seen; a gorgeous wedding dress on the runway or an entire catwalk collection... the list of inspiration is endless! I think it's always important to take a step back and look at bridal fashion from a fresh perspective so that each shoot is different and inspiring.
How best would you advise a Bride and Groom to personalise their wedding day style…
If you have a certain style as a couple, go for it! Don't be afraid of what other people will think and don't feel like you have to adhere to wedding etiquette (take that look of horror off your face Mark!) This is your day, make it your own.
Favourite shoot location…
Kenya. I got to do a shoot recently in a location that I have had in my inspiration book for years... Giraffe Manor. Incredible.
Who would you say is an iconic bride…
It's an oldie but a goodie - Jackie Kennedy - I adore the family heirloom lace veil attached to her head with a lace tiara.
Something old, new, borrowed and blue…
Old vintage clutch, new gorgeous piece of jewellery from your man, borrowed heirloom bracelet and a tiny blue flower sewn inside your dress.
What does marriage mean to you in three words…
Amazing (dress), hot (shoes) and fabulous (jewellery)!
Dream wedding entertainment…
Van Morrison, to play Brown Eyed Girl.
Which season do you think is best suited to weddings...
Summer. Al fresco weddings, endless days of sunshine and balmy nights for plenty of outdoor fun and frolics.
Favourite wedding dress designer…
Oscar of course!
Favourite heel for a Bride…
Something high enough to look hot but low enough to make your mark on the dance floor.
Favourite cake flavour…
To tell the truth it's all about the macaroon for me!
Favourite cocktail…
A Cosmopolitan of course.
Bridesmaids… love or loathe…
Love, in moderation...
Essential item for a bride on her wedding day…
Anti-shine sheets, I always seem to have a shiny face and I'd hate for my wedding pics to be shine-tastic.
Trend prediction for wedding dresses in 2011…
Definitely soft hued dresses, peach, blush pink, even muted grey.
Finally Sally will you marry me…
Yes!! But you're not allowed to look more stylish than me on the big day.

A VARIETY OF MAIDS
Dear Mr N
I have 6 Bridesmaids in total, all of varying different shapes, sizes and hair colours. What do you think is the most versatile dress for them all to wear, or do you think I should pick out a unique dress for them each?
Alice, North London
Honey ditch them and go to a model agency. Alternatively if you don’t have the heart or are worried about losing them as friends Twobirds is a perfect one stop shop for Bridesmaids. One dress yet 15 different ways of wearing it, and in 18 different colours. Alternatively give them one colour and tell them to find an individual dress each that flatters and suits their own style.

CARPET NIGHTMARE
Dear Mr N
The venue for my reception has a horrid carpet… how can I hide such a monstrosity?
Rebecca, Devon
Book another venue. No I’m kidding. A costly answer would be to ask your production company to lay a new carpet over the top… you’ll be amazed at how it transforms a room. Alternatively once you have all your tables, chairs and decorations in the room no one will even notice the carpet. Ensure your table cloths are floor length to hide the carpet even further. Lighting will also help, dim the lights, light several thousand candles and the room’s atmosphere will be totally different.
